Ready to volunteer?
Here are the details:

Minimum stay is 3 months (applications for less than 3 months will not be considered, due to the massive amount of training that goes in to performing wildlife carer duties).

This position is unpaid– it is a volunteer role to immerse yourself in animal caring experiences (at other facilities, the volunteers will actually be charged up to $1,500 per week for a similar role – at our centre this experience is free).

Team: You’ll be living on an island with 2 fulltime caretakers, and 2 other live-in volunteers.

Single roles available only: We currently don’t have availability to accommodate couples.

Remote living: You’ll be in our very quiet Quoin Island Retreat which is now closed to the public (no shops, restaurants or nightlife on the island).

Groceries get delivered once a week.

Strictly no pets (native wildlife).

Non-smoking only (safety – remote island in dry environment).

No visa sign off: This position is not eligible for 2nd work holiday visa sign off.

Turtle Volunteer

What Are We Looking for?

We’re seeking a self-motivated, fit, and passionate person who’s ready to get their hands dirty and throw themselves into the work without any drama. You’ll need to be patient, caring, and enthusiastic, and of course, have a genuine love for animals.

Requirements:

  • At least 21 years old
  • You must have excellent English skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) – this is important as you need to be able to follow written and spoken medical directions/instructions, you need to be able to write accurate and complete medical records, and communicate animal behavior clearly and in great detail).
  • Hard-working and not afraid to do the grunt work (cleaning, food prep, etc.).
  • A team player who cares about the turtles and the whole rehabilitation process.
  • Flexible with work hours – some days you may need to reschedule time off depending on the turtles’ needs.
  • Independent – you’ll be living on an island, so you’ll need to manage your own weekly meal planning, laundry, and downtime.
  • Strong and fit – you should be able to lift and carry 20kg.
  • Clean and tidy – you treat our property with respect and leave communal areas and your cabin spotless.
  • No smoking or pets (for safety and the well-being of the wildlife).
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a valid visa to work in Australia.
